Taking our mission interstate: Advancing women’s economic empowerment

Economic empowerment is the key to security and opportunity for all. But women continue to face unique barriers that hold them back. 

Alteris Women are breaking these barriers through connection and community, and this year, we took that mission to our interstate locations. 

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, we launched Alteris Women in Rockhampton, Brisbane, Melbourne, in addition to holding our annual IWD event in the city of Sydney. Across these four incredible events, more than 200 women came together to connect, learn, and feel empowered by the wisdom and lived experience of our inspiring guest speakers. 

Sydney 

In Sydney, we heard from Kate Temby, Head of Sustainability Strategies Group MIM and Board Member Netwealth, who shared her insights into navigating your career, making strategic decisions and the importance of financial literacy at every stage of life.   

We also heard from Donna Meredith, President, the International Alliance for Women, who shared details about the PNG Gender Potential Unlimited (GPU) Project, an initiative supporting 200 female school leavers in Port Moresby to develop job-ready skills for a smoother transition from school to work. 

Rockhampton  

Our first launch event was held in Rockhampton, where Kim Harrington, Associate Vice President, CQUniversity, shared the importance of expanding access to education and vocational training, particularly to those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Kim also shared the importance of female representation in the STEM field and how we can break down the barriers that are preventing young women from perusing careers in the field.  

Liz Whalley, Financial Adviser, The Investment Collective, shared the most common financial challenges women face today and how women can transform their financial future through better financial knowledge. Liz also spoke to the importance of community and the positive impact it can have on women’s financial journeys. 

Brisbane 

Suzanne Bosanquet, Community Leader, Entrepreneur and Business Owner, shared insights at our Brisbane event on the impacts of architecture for women, youth, and the environment, and how small daily actions can lead to meaningful change. 

Kate Golder, our vey own Executive Director and Head of Compliance, shared practical tips for women at different life stages, to take control of their finances and the importance of doing so:  

• Early 20s and 30s – Build a budget, track your spending and understand superannuation  
• Mid Career  – Understand your superannuation investment risk profile and ensure you have the correct type and amount of insurance 
• Pre Retirement / Retirement – Understand your super balance, where you should be for your age and look at pulling back your risk profile, pay off loans, and review your insurances and estate plan.

Melbourne 

In Melbourne, Sally Freeman, Board Member at Netwealth, offered a thought-provoking perspective on our personal relationship with money. She encouraged the audience to treat money as if it were a person, something we engage with, respect, and communicate with. By reframing money this way, Sally showed how we can shift our mindset and build a healthier, more empowered financial relationship. 

Tracey Briggs, Senior Financial Adviser at The Investment Collective, shared powerful stories from her work supporting women through some of life’s most challenging transitions. From divorce to loss to financial independence, Tracey’s insights were both practical and deeply human. Her parting message was a reminder we all needed to hear: Don’t be afraid to admit what you don’t know—asking questions is the first step toward confidence and control.

Contribution with Impact 

This roadshow was about more than just gathering. It marked the beginning of a strategic partnership with The International Alliance for Women (TIAW), built on a shared commitment to creating real, measurable impact. 

Through our events and community support, we’ve already raised over $5,500 for the PNG Gender Potential Unlimited (GPU) Project, an initiative that will provide 200 young women in Port Moresby with job-ready skills to help them transition from school into meaningful work. Every dollar goes directly to this life-changing program, helping unlock potential and possibility for the next generation of women. 

This is just the beginning.
