Meet Amy Atkinson, Financial Adviser

Financial adviser in Wealth at Alteris Financial Group, Amy Atkinson, always had a desire to work in finance, and an avid interest in finance and money, therefore this pathway led her to the financial advice industry. “I was always really interested in saving and growing my own money and wanted to better understand the finance world and how to maximise this,” says Amy. She joined the Alteris team in January 2021 and notes several reasons why she enjoys working for the company.
“Firstly, the people – we are all bright, driven and enthusiastic – it’s great working with like-minded people, and we hold a common drive to better the experience for a client,” Amy says. “Also, our structure provides autonomy to allow me to be me and act how I perform best. And then there’s the clients, of course!”
Her typical day as a financial adviser in Wealth at the Alteris office is a very busy one, and involves preparing and running client meetings (face to face or via Zoom or phone), and reviewing and preparing financial advice documents for clients. There is also general client communication (via email or phone), and keeping a good record of client communication with file notes.
Amy also keeps up to date with industry news and financial markets, undertakes training on different technical areas to continue to grow via professional development, and has internal meetings with key staff at Alteris to ensure everything continues to run smoothly.
Due to her long-held interest in finance and money, Amy completed a Bachelor of Finance at Australian National University in Canberra, followed by an internship at the Australian Taxation Office in her first year of university. Another internship followed, this time at BNP Paribas in Shanghai in her second year.
“Both of these experiences made me realise my passion for finance lay with people and individuals themselves,” she says. “I was drawn to the financial advisory industry for this reason – so I could work with people in the front of house.”
An internship in financial advisory in her final year of university led Amy to her first role in Financial Advice in 2013. Outside of the Alteris office, Amy can be found exercising at the gym, doing yoga or hiking. She also loves to indulge her passion for cooking by hosting dinner parties. Then there’s her love of travel. “Put me on a plane to Italy every year for the rest of my life and I’ll be a happy woman,” laughs Amy.
